I chose to review The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. This is the first book in an excellent trilogy.
Katniss volunteers to take her sister's place in the annual Games in the Central District. She represents District 12 in this struggle to survive. With two entries from each district, each entrant must find a way to survive or she or he will be killed by the others. The object is to be the last surviver and the reward is tremendous-a house in the district with telephone and electricity and bountiful supplies of food. Along the way Katniss discovers that the male District 12 competitor has fallen in love with her and prefers to protect her instead of competing with her. Through a series of mishaps and successes both survive and he confesses is love for her. The Central District now has a decision to make.
This book is a captivating read and engages the reader from the first paragraph. It is an excellent example of Science Fiction writing and even if you are not a SciFi fan you will enjoy this book and the two following--The Crackling Fire and Mockinjay.
